Critical to Dr Mukweges One Stop Center, is the integration of medical health with psycho-social wellbeing. As such, the model seeks to ensure that at each moment, a patient and/or client receives care in both cadres simultaneously if needed. For example, traumatized patients are greeted by a social worker, who accompanies her throughout the circuit of care, whether that might include, surgery, or basic outpatient services. This also includes community out reach.
Drug and alcohol abuse and mental health are complex issues, but in the village we have seen a direct link to opportunities to support themselves and ensure the well-being of the family. In addition, there is a great need for investments in mental health due to trauma and depression.
